Its Uses

1. The major use is for the preparation of ‘gahwa’ – a strong cardamom coffee concoction which is a symbol for hospitality among Arabs, cardamom is widely used as a flavouring material in whole and ground form.
2. In Scandinavian countries it is used in baked goods and confectionaries.
3. In Europe and North America it is an ingredient in curry powder and in some sausages products
4. Cardamom oil and oleoresin has applications in flavouring processed foods, cordials, and liquors and in perfumery and in Ayurvedic medicines.

   Green Cardamom
   Cardamom has a strong, unique taste, with an intensely aromatic fragrance. It is the dried, un ripened fruit of the plant.Cardamom is best stored in pod form, because once the seeds are exposed or ground, they quickly lose their flavor.The fruit capsules, green in colour, which are collected just before maturity.
   
   In Malaysia the cardamom is cultivated in the western Ghats. We buy cardamom from the cultivator through spices board. The bulk farmer grade is the mixer of all sizes. It is manually cleaned and sorted by machinery into different sizes. The cardamom pod diameter is from 4mm- *1mm and it is sorted normally to four different range of sizes.

   Storage: 2 years properly stored.

   Function: The herb is well known as a digestive stimulant that improves the appetite and promotes circulation to the digestive system, helping to relieve nausea, vomiting, indigestion, and colic. It also eases irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Cardamom is a warm, aromatic herb that has stimulating, tonic effects, especially on the lungs and is thought to improve circulation to the lungs. It is also considered a fine expectorant and has long been used to relieve pulmonary disease that produced copious phlegm. It is also a tonic for the kidneys. It normalizes the elimination of stool and urine and is used in Ayurvedic and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to control urinary incontinence in both men and women.
